There are prayers that are predicated on our sense of distance from God.
They praise God “in His heavenly stronghold,” and describe Him as “He who spoke and the world came into being.”
Other prayers and blessings are based on our sense of closeness to Him, in which we address God directly.
In these latter prayers, a person should contemplate that he is conversing with God, speaking to him in the second person as “You.”
This is the closest that a person can come to God, whether in this world or the World to Come.
