As long as we communicate to God in our own personal language, with experiences and rituals of our own choosing, we may be speaking to ourselves, but we are not speaking to Him.
We are not crossing the divide–from the finite to the infinite.
To create a true connection with the other side, we must speak its language.
Therefore, communication from man to God is possible only via the language of the Torah and mitzvot.
In this sense, they are God’s language that He gave to us so that we can speak with Him.
