Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz: “Inner struggles and difficulties”

When a person is judged, whether by himself or others, that assessment cannot take into account superficial criteria alone.

To compare people and judge fairly, it is not enough to examine their deeds.

Their inner struggles and difficulties must be taken under consideration.

A person’s character is determined not by his objective accomplishments alone but by his subjective efforts as well.
