Let My People Know

Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz: “If you don’t know how to smell a flower, you are not a complete human being.”

Perhaps many people feel that without meditation you are not really a human being.

It may be true.

But it is also true the other way.

If you don’t know how to draw a circle, if you don’t know how to plant a tree, if you don’t know how to bite a nut, if you don’t know how to smell a flower, you are not a complete human being.

You are only half a creature.

The spiritual person and the material person are both deformed people – not in the same way, one is blind and one is deaf – but it is still a deformation.
